Beachside Oasis
From the 2025 NKBA Excellence in Design Awards: a kitchen by Andrea Ellis of Kitchen Studio North Shore, Auckland.
Beachside Oasis is a coastal kitchen without the cliches. No rope, no driftwood — just light, pale surfaces and a plan that expects sand, wet togs and a full house in summer.
The bench runs are long and forgiving. There is space to feed a crowd, and the circulation around the island stays wide enough for two or three people to work at once.
The palette is deliberately quiet so the view and the light do the talking. Where colour appears it is low and grounded, which stops the brightness from feeling clinical.
Practicality has been designed in: durable surfaces, deep drawers, and storage that can absorb the seasonal swing between an empty house and a full one.
