Casa de playa de verano
From the 2025 NKBA Excellence in Design Awards: a kitchen by Jenny Holmes of Designmarked Kitchens, Waikato.
Casa de playa de verano is a summer house kitchen, and it behaves like one. Open, bright, and organised around the assumption that the doors will be open and the house will be full.
The plan keeps the cook connected. Sightlines run out through the living space, and the island is positioned so that conversation carries rather than stops at the bench edge.
Materials are pale and hard-wearing, with texture doing the work that colour usually does. The result is a room that feels relaxed without feeling temporary.
Storage has been scaled for holiday living: room for the extra plates, the platters, the things that only come out when everyone arrives at once.
