Dakota Rise makes a small Parnell apartment kitchen work harder without changing its essential footprint. The wider refurbishment was designed for a client returning to apartment living, with afternoon light, retained curtains and a warm neutral palette setting the tone.

A compact kitchen is given better storage, a contemporary finish and island seating in place of a separate dining table. A stainless-steel benchtop brings a sharper note to the softer timber and neutral finishes, while the stairwell is treated as part of the home’s architectural rhythm. It is downsizing with intent rather than compromise.

Judges’ comment

Making excellent use of limited space, this compact kitchen delivers an unexpected yet highly functional design that meets the brief beautifully. The dividing timber joinery provides display, seating and storage while maintaining light and connection, and creative details like the recessed cooktop nook and continuous shelving add charm and practicality.
