Project story

Earth and Stone feels less like a bathroom renovation and more like a private room with water in it. There is a depth to the palette that makes the space feel settled from the first glance: timber, stone, grey-green tile, polished steel and a bath that sits with the confidence of an object chosen for pleasure, not just purpose.

Designed by Natalie Du Bois of Du Bois Design, the Parnell bathroom has a quietly masculine weight, softened by the craft in its details. Chocolate-stained ash gives the vanity and mirror their warmth, while New Zealand Panels cabinetry components support the structure behind the finish. The benchtop is Cosentino Dekton in Marmorio, matte and restrained, holding the room’s tonal balance without trying to dominate it.

The fittings add a crisp counterpoint. Robertson is represented through the toilet selection, while Heirloom heated towel rails bring polish and practical comfort into the scheme. Blum hardware keeps storage simple and discreet, allowing the timber forms to stay clean.

What makes Earth and Stone compelling is the way it avoids the usual bathroom brightness. Instead, it leans into shadow, grain and texture. The result is intimate rather than gloomy, refined rather than decorative. It is a bathroom with atmosphere, and with just enough drama to make routine feel ritualised.

Judges’ comment

A stunning bathroom. Warm timber and dramatic stone complement the gorgeous bath and terracotta basin to create depth and personality. The elegant layout, cohesive fixtures and strong documentation deliver a highly functional, beautifully resolved bathroom. Site constraints were cleverly resolved with concealed services and added storage.
