Project story

Japandi Soul is a bathroom with a very clear idea of calm. It draws on the soft discipline suggested by its name: warm neutrals, simple geometry, brushed brass, pale timber tones and a preference for quiet resolution over decorative noise.

Designed by Tibbits + Co, the Auckland bathroom is built around balance. The room’s palette is restrained, but not cold. Large-format ivory-toned surfaces create a soft, architectural base, while the smaller feature tile brings a hand-laid rhythm to the bathing zone. The effect is gentle, but still precise.

Robertson fixtures carry the key brass moments through the space, including the basin mixer, shower mixer, shower column, bath mixer, toilet system and push plate. Used consistently, the brushed brass finish gives the room a warm thread without tipping into excess. It is the kind of detailing that works because it has been repeated with discipline. The vanity, arched mirror, corner bath and heated rails continue the same language of softness and utility, keeping the space practical while allowing the visual mood to remain composed.

Japandi Soul succeeds because it does not confuse minimalism with emptiness. There is texture, warmth and comfort here; just no clutter. It is a bathroom designed for pause, where the eye can rest and the day can lower its volume a little.

The judges love the way the refined material palette and layered textures give this bathroom an elegant, inviting quality. A warm, timeless bathroom, perfectly capturing the Japandi aesthetic with a lovely combination of stone, timber and brass creating a calm, cohesive and softly balanced space.
