Lake Escape gives a compact Central Otago ensuite the atmosphere of a private retreat. The clients wanted a room that felt calm and spacious within their contemporary holiday home, with materials and lines that acknowledged the surrounding landscape. Rather than add a bath to an already spa-focused home, the brief placed its attention on the relationship with the outdoor soaking area.
A generous walk-in shower, twin basins and concealed storage make the room work easily day to day. The result is pared back but not bare: a considered bathroom that gives privacy, restoration and the alpine setting equal weight.
Judges’ comment
This luxurious ensuite responds confidently to the home's architecture, creating a bold yet calm and cohesive private retreat within a challenging, angled space. The refined material palette and connection to the outdoor spa area are beautifully handled, while the creative mirror placement and clever vanity detailing adds a unique touch.
