Understated Retreat turns a compact guest ensuite into a room with a calmer sense of proportion. The brief was to create a private, generous-feeling space within the guest wing of an architect-designed home, using natural materials and contemporary fixtures without weighing down the small footprint.
A galley arrangement lengthens the room and guides the eye toward the walk-in shower. Material continuity and restrained detailing keep the bathroom open and settled. It is a compact space, but it holds the same care as the larger rooms around it: a place for visiting family and friends to feel properly looked after.
Judges’ comment
A concise, creative design showcasing clever spatial planning and material continuity to create the illusion of a much larger space. The full-length travertine half wall is a standout feature, elongating the room while adding warmth and texture. A thoughtful, sophisticated, and inviting response to a compact space.
